Reflektium is an optical application which is the product of years of investigation and very complicated mathematical formulas which result in pieces that combine science and art to produce impressive visual effects which are worth seeing in person. We make these kaleidoscopes and teleidoscopes by hand with great dedication.
One of the most common reactions of people who see it for the first time is ¡Woooooow! And this sums up very well the impression it causes. It is the reaction which we like to get. Others describe it similar to leaning out of the window with views of the universe, especially in models that recreate cosmic panoramas in 3D or that seem not to have any end point. The sensation is difficult to describe, however, even by means of videos. The light is reflected thousands, millions of times by the high-definition mirrors that our Reflektium are made of and this allows us to make a possibly infinite number of combinations of effects of light, color, texture and refraction.
Each Reflektium is made of two facets: the exterior is the artistic side, a sculpture created with artistic glass made by hand.
In the interior is the scientific side, with laboratory-quality optic mirrors, with a high degree of refraction. We do not use acrylic mirrors, paints or other perishable materials that are not glass or metal.
It is inside that the magic is produced: different techniques, elements and lights are reflected thousands of times by the interior mirrors which, strategically placed, produce incredible tridimensional effects.

Yes, it seems like magic, but it is science. It does not need any form of battery, nothing needs to be charged and there is no maintenance. Its functioning varies according to the effect you want to achieve and on the type of Refektium in question. The main explanation is that the Reflektium has at least one photo-sensitive side that reacts when you bring it near to a light source, whether natural direct light, a torch with white light, a LED lamp of colors or ultraviolet light… It is a question of trying and experimenting.
At least, it is not the type of toy we give to a child. Even though as a present it is a very original choice and kaleidoscopes have traditionally been considered to be toys, our Reflektiums are unique pieces of art made with high quality materials, more like you would find in a jeweler’s than in the world of glass-making. In fact, we use solder with silver, mirrors of optical grade, pieces of engraved dichroic glass, Strass glass (Swarowski) and we can even custom-make pieces with precious stones such as diamonds and other special materials. This turns them into exclusive and unrepeatable works of art.
Each Reflektium is unique because it is completely handmade by the glass artist Jonatan Díaz, who has managed his own artistic glass studio since 1997 and who signs by hand each piece he creates. We only use fine, long-lasting materials. We don’t use acrylic or any paints or materials that are not permanent. The Reflektiums are made to last for centuries.
